Choosing A Balance Transfer Credit Card
You will need to consider the following questions when you choose a balance transfer credit card.
Have you a seperate card for your new purchases ?
We would recommend that you have a seperate card for new purchases as if you combine balance transfers with new purchases it is highly likely that the balance transfer is given higher priority for monthly payments. This means the new purchase balance is charged at the typical APR, while the low or zero interest balance transfer is paid off more quickly, thus reducing the benefit of the offer.
Do you expect to pay off the balance by the end of the offer period ?
If the answer is yes then this will make your choice much easier as you do not have to worry about what happens when the offer period finishes. If the answer is no then you need to consider the typical APR which will kick in when the period ends
Your choice of card will depend on the answers to these questions. To help you make your choice we have listed a comprehensive selection of balance transfers on the market
